AMICO

About

Alabama Metals Industries Corporation, or AMICO, began in 1939 as a manufacturer of metal lath and has grown to become the world’s largest manufacturer of expanded metal products. AMICO has manufacturing and distribution facilities throughout North America and the full range of capabilities to compliment our manufacturing strength. Make no mistake, we are not just a re-seller of safety grating and expanded metal, we make it.

Seasafe is a wholly owned subsidiary of AMICO and manufactures molded and pultruded fiberglass reinforced plastic (frp). Seasafe has all the powerful tools that AMICO possesses and can also provide panels or fabricated grating to your specifications.

Please visit our websites to find access to all of our catalogs, load charts, contacts and the full listing of all products AMICO and Seasafe offer.

Products

Expanded Metal

Expanded metal is made from sheet stock and is simultaneously slit and stretched into a rigid, non-raveling open mesh. This process creates strands and bonds that form a sharp angle to the original plane of the sheet. This gives the material a rough texture, well suited for adhering other materials to or creating a non-slip surface. This material can then be cold-rolled to its originally flattened state, which creates what is called flattened expanded metal. Flattened expanded is useful when the rough texture of regular expanded metal is not desirable and is used mostly in decorative or architectural applications. Expanded metal grating is typically used for walkways and is made from heavier plate with larger openings (diamonds).

  • Materials: Carbon steel, Stainless steel and Aluminum

  • Applications: Catwalks, Elevated walkways, Architectural and décor, Sunshade, Vehicle steps and running boards, Concrete and plaster reinforcement, Outdoor furniture, Partition security, Grilles, Tunnel linings, Stair treads, Shelving, Sewage filters, Heater guards, Shellfish pots, Machine guards, Fencing, Conveyor guards

Safety (Plank) Grating

AMICO produces Diamond-Grip, Safety-Grip and Safety-Tread plank grating. Plank grating is a one-piece metal plank manufactured by a cold forming process in the shape of a channel. The web of the channel is the walking surface and has small openings punched into the walking surface to provide excellent slip resistance. These opening can be diamond shaped or round. This is an ideal product for industrial catwalks and walkways as it provides maximum slip resistance, is self-cleaning (debris tends to fall through the openings), and is very simple and economical to install. The one-piece construction is self-supporting and has a very high strength to weight ratio. AMICO also makes Safety Tread Flooring which can cover large areas to provide slip resistance while allowing fluids to pass through.

  • Materials: Carbon steel (bare, galvanized and pre-galvanized), Stainless steel and Aluminum

  • Applications: Walkways, Catwalks, Stair treads, Ramps, Maintenance stands, Ladder treads, Factory flooring, Cell phone towers, Scaffolding

Fiberglass (FRP) Grating

AMICO’s subsidiary, SeaSafe, is a manufacturer of GatorGrate molded fiberglass grating which is ideal where lightweight, fire-retardant grating is required. Standard panels are available in three resin systems (PFR, IFR Plus, and VFR), two top-surface configurations, four panel sizes and five standard grid patterns. This product has excellent slip resistance, performs well in harsh environments, and is easy to cut and install. For outdoor deck surfaces, consider using SeaSafe GatorGrate grating instead of treated lumber. It lasts far longer, allows passage of light and debris, and does not leach caustic chemicals into the environment. For applications where higher strength is required, consider SeaSafe Gatordeck Pultruded Grating, made in I-bar and T-bar configurations depending on your requirements. SeaSafe also makes GatorPlate floor plate which is useful when creating a non-slip surface over a large area; it can also be attached to the top of SeaSafe grating when a smoother walking surface is desired.

  • Materials: Reinforced polyester or vinylester, PFR, IFR Plus and VFR resin systems, Pultruded molding

  • Applications: Floor systems, Walkways, Work platforms, Stairs, Ramps, Trench covers, Catwalks. Suitable for harsh environments and industries including: Maritime, Oil/gas, Mining, Smelting, Refining, Food processing, Beverage, Chemical processing, Water and wastewater treatment facilities, Metal finishing, Pulp & paper, Transportation, Pharmaceutical and Textile.
